Pump It Up! Adventures of a Busy Little Heart

Inside your chest lives Hearty the Heart, the hardest-working muscle around.

Every second, Hearty calls out,

“All aboard! Time to move the blood!”

First, the right side of Hearty takes in tired, low-oxygen blood.

Righty the Ventricle gives it a big push to the lungs, where the blood gets fresh oxygen—like taking a deep breath after a long run.

Then the refreshed blood returns to the left side of Hearty.

Lefty the Ventricle is super strong and sends the oxygen-filled blood blasting through the aorta to the whole body.

The blood visits the brain, toes, muscles—everywhere!—delivering oxygen and picking up waste before coming back to Hearty to start again.

Hearty smiles,

“Pump, rest, pump, rest… all day long!”

And that’s how your heart keeps your whole body going—one steady beat at a time.
